ABOUT US
Family Literacy of Georgia exists to strengthen children, families, and communities of color by making literacy joyful, accessible, and culturally relevant. We connect parents and caregivers of children ages 0 - 8 with quality, culturally relevant books through Little Free Library® book-sharing boxes and other community-based distribution efforts.
We believe children become more confident and engaged readers when they see themselves and their families positively reflected in the stories they read. We also equip parents and caregivers with simple, practical literacy tools that help make reading a joyful part of everyday life.
With a particular focus on Clayton and Henry Counties, we partner with organizations and individuals to expand access to books, support families, and amplify proven literacy strategies throughout Georgia.

Mission & Vision
We strengthen communities of color by increasing access to quality, culturally relevant books and literacy resources.

By 2036, we envision 80% of children in the communities we serve reading on or above grade level by the end of third grade.
Organization Values
Our values guide us in our daily operations as well as in setting our strategic long-term goals.

Culturally Relevant
We are committed to reaching a diverse population with an emphasis on children and families of color. We do this by identifying culturally relevant books that include relatable images of Black, Asian, Hispanic, and indigenous children, as well as topics, themes, and characters that reflect how their life is currently or how they would like to live!
Legacy
We are dedicated to helping families build a legacy of learning. Following in the steps of our Founder, and her family, we honor their legacy by serving our community and building education partnerships to support community development.

Accountability
Our organization is data-driven. We use numbers to drive our decisions while seeking to impact the lives of the communities we serve. Many of our communities of color have reading proficiency scores below 20%. Our mission exists to reverse these numbers and improve literacy outcomes.
Joy
We are committed to families coming together to have fun! Whether it's through reading for pleasure, attending our literacy events, or volunteering to be part of our team, we have FUN! You can expect to hear a lot of laughter and see individuals and families having a great time.

Collaboration
We are team builders. Together we are better, so we build teams to influence more families. Our teams include other nonprofit organizations, corporations, unions, municipalities, children, and adults. A diverse team to support communities of color with one mission.
